Frequently Asked Questions

What age groups do you work with?

I work with ages 4 and up! I try to cater to each level of development, and with my teaching background, I am able to make some accommodations for younger ages.

I offer classes for teens and adults on a case by case basis. When a school or a group of people ask me to teach a class, I will customize a class for that group.

How much does it cost?

A 2 hour class is $40 per class, per child. 4-6 week classes are bundled and the price varies depending supplies needed and how long the class is that is offered. Payment is made either through my website or through Venmo.

Can I get a refund if I need to cancel?

Kid Classes

Full refunds can be made if notice is given 24 hours or more before the first class begins. This includes one day classes, 2 or 3-day classes or 4-6 week classes, etc. If you know beforehand that you will not be able to attend, full refunds can be made when advanced notice is given.

I will also make a refund exception only in case of unexpected illness on the day of the class. If you need to cancel on the day of, please notify me as soon as possible. Unfortunately, I am not able to offer refunds in the case of forgetting about class, unexpected traveling, scheduling conflicts, etc. Thank you for your understanding!

Adult Classes

A full refund will be made if notice is given 72 hours or more prior to the event. Unfortunately, no refunds can be given after this time period due to the higher cost of supplies and additional class/event preparations required.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me and I will be happy to discuss it further.

Class Cancellation

In the event that I have to cancel a class, you will be issued a 100% refund. You can also opt to credit that payment to a rescheduled class. I will always communicate with you about this via email.

Where are you located?

I am located in southwest Austin, in Oak Hill. However, the exact address is provided in the registration receipt email, and again in class email reminders.

Why don’t you offer more classes?

Right now, I am a one-woman operation. It takes a lot of planning even for one class, so I limit the classes to balance being a stay-at-home mom. I offer classes to stay in sync with the demand. If a group of 5 or more ask me to create more classes, I certainly can do that.

What does the art space look like?

The art studio was once a large open indoor space, but it has been reduced! Classes are now in an outdoor covered area. The workshop area is still available, but we have an even better area for ventilation and still lots of space to create! It is important to dress accordingly for whatever weather we encounter. I may cancel/reschedule class due to harsh cold or excessive rain.

What should my child wear?

Children should wear clothing that they can get messy! Since we are mostly outdoors, children should also wear clothing that is weather appropriate. When it’s hot, shorts are encouraged, and when it is cold, layers are encouraged.

What do I need to bring?

A water bottle, a small snack and clothing appropriate for weather and mess. Art supplies are included in the fee.

Where do I park/drop-off?

There are two driveways on which to park, and either can be used. The shorter driveway is best if parents plan to stick around longer, and the longer driveway is best for quick drop-offs. The studio space is at the end of the long driveway.

What are your Covid protocols?

The studio space is outdoors with plenty of ventilation. Families are free to do what feels best regarding mask wearing, but masks are not required.

What is your art teaching philosophy?

My #1 motto is: “Make mistakes”! The only way to learn is to mess up…a LOT! And in my classes, that is okay and welcome!

I believe, there is no right, wrong, good or bad, but just PROCESS. Every artist is in process and at different developmental levels. The best way to improve is to practice. Art is a practice and I believe that no matter what the age, we will always be in a learning process.

I believe that the learning environment should be a place of respect, encouragement, and a place that is uplifting. I do not tolerate negative or unkind words that tear down another’s work, but I try to foster a space where we build one another up.

I believe children should have exposure to as much art and materials as possible. Children should experience beautiful art from the masters and see what the contemporaries are doing as well. In my classes, I like to talk about other artists and study their methods. I also like to expose children to different mediums and materials. Wet medium, dry medium, papers and even fabric sometimes are great tools for creating artwork. I also infuse technical art skills in my workshops. While art is very subjective, there are “rules” that are good to know. Once you know them, you can choose to break them with skill and purpose.
